Leeds gay businessmen Terry George and Michael Rothwell, the brains behind Fibre, Mission, Bent magazine and Mr Gay UK are registering their 17 year partnership at 8am on Wednesday 21st December 2005. They’re aiming to become the first gay couple to legally ‘marry’ under the Civil Partnership Act which comes into effect at the very moment of the ceremony.
The ceremony is taking place at Fibre in Leeds. Interviewed on BBC Radio Leeds, the couple reckoned that they’d still be partying from the night before. Fibre has become one of the first gay venues in the UK to receive a licence for Civil Partnership ceremonies.
