Gay ‘wedding show’ a huge success

in the news
from May 2007

‘If the information we have is accurate,’ says Steve Edwards from Castles & Carriages, one of the organisers of last month’s Civil Partnership Fayre, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Leeds, ‘with attendance figures up by as much as 600% on similar events in the region, we certainly appear to be reaching our target audience. It was a very enjoyable day with an excellent mix of specialists including a carriage company who brought along two superb white horses (pictured) and a car company who brought a pink Volkswagen Beetle cabriole. We ourselves took along a silver Rolls-Royce which is available for hire. Those visiting the fayre were spoilt for choice when looking for edible goods, with a very generous chocolate fountain company (try passing that without trying a sample!) a superb showing of speciality cakes and other tasty items. And amongst a superb mix of jewellery, photography, videography, clothing, stationary etc we included tarot card reading, firework companies and even the support from our friends at West Yorkshire Police.

‘Collectively, we can certainly lay claim to history, having been part of the first gay and civil partnership wedding exhibition to be held in the city of Leeds. Sue and I were particularly pleased to have had so much support from gay and genuinely gay-friendly individuals and businesses, of which there are far too many to list here. But it would be unfair not to mention the management team at The Crowne Plaza, including Jessica, Jenny and Simon, and Dave from Xibit, who provides a DJ service at several venues around the area and was very helpful in promoting this event.’

They are planning a return match, to what we hope will be recognised as the home of gay and civil partnership exhibitions in Leeds, on the 20th April 2008.
