The Sheffield Gay Pride Committee is pleased to announce that Sheffield’s first gay Pride event is to take place on Saturday 7th June 2008. Cemetery Park on Montague Road is to stage the campest, most outrageous event to take place in Sheffield to date.
‘South Yorkshire Pride - Sheffield 2008 is a totally free event,’ says the organisers, ‘and invites lgbt individuals as well as their supporters from all walks of life and of all ages to get involved and attend.’
Members of the Pride Committee have been busy organising events raising money to ensure Sheffield’s first Pride is a massive success. Already collaborating with some of Sheffield’s most popular gay and gay-friendly bars, there is more to come.
‘We have much more planned to raise money for Sheffield’s first Pride event and believe that with the right energy and support from the community, we can celebrate a Pride that both suits and reflects Sheffield’s diverse scene,’ enthuses Lisa White, publicity and fundraising event co-ordinator.
Sheffield Pride 2008 has already received support from a number of prominent individuals including Jan Wilson, the leader of Sheffield City Council who said: ‘I am pleased that South Yorkshire Pride will take place in Sheffield this year and send my best wishes for its success.’
Similarly, much-appreciated contributions have also been received from both Sheffield universities.
Anyone interested in providing support or working in partnership with South Yorkshire Pride is urged to contact the Sheffield Pride committee (see below).
