The Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and SHOUT! Centre in Sheffield are organising their annual free event for the city’s lgb communities. Spring Out 2008 returns for its sixth year on Saturday 14th June between 9.30am and 6.00pm, and aims to promote the health and well-being of Sheffield’s lgb communities.
Steve Slack, Director of the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health says: ‘Some lesbian, gay and bisexual people can often feel quite isolated and there may be a tendency to focus on the negative aspects of being gay. Spring Out 2008 will be a fun, celebratory event encouraging people to consider ways of looking after their health and well-being and building their social networks.
‘Spring Out has been consistently well attended since it began in 2002 and we intend to build on that success this year by providing a diverse range of workshops and discussions that celebrate lgb communities in Sheffield.’
Nik Thoren, Manager of the SHOUT! Centre adds: ‘There are lots of great, very hard working community groups in Sheffield and this is an opportunity for everyone to get together, build the sense of community and take part in workshops and discussions in a safe and fun environment.’
Workshops and activities planned include art, supporting lgb families, sexual health, singing, foot massage, exercise, celebrating diverse lgb communities, and dance. The annual Spring Out award ceremony will also take place honouring individuals and agencies who have made positive contributions to Sheffield’s lgb communities in the last year.
