The James Bond-themed Leeds Pride2. 007 promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s event, which attracted over 6,000 revellers to the city’s growing queer quarter. Joining the parade and party there will be a special Youth Pride sports day and a sumptuous ball.
Sonia Bowles, from the planning group said: ‘We wanted to add something special to widen the event’s appeal. So as well as the parade through town and the biggest party in Yorkshire on Sunday the 5th, Saturday the 4th sees us transform The Queen’s Hotel, into the venue for the gayest of gay balls.’ See the end of this article for details.
And talking of balls, Saturday 28th July sees local teams vying for the Leeds’ Pride Cup. Liaqat Ali, from Yorkshire Terriers football team told us: ‘It will be a fun-filled afternoon with events like three-legged race, welly-tossing and a 100 metre drag (queen) race. There will be a small fee to enter a team and all money will go to supporting Pride2 007’.
On August 5th, Millennium Square is the meeting point for the parade from where revellers will congregate before sashaing their way through town.
After the parade it’s time for the local gay venues to do what they do best and put on the party of the year - entertaining the massive crowds till the early hours.
For those of you who want a more sedate afternoon there will be an all-weather market and community arena in Club Mission until 6pm.
