Leeds Pride 2.007

in the news
from July 2007

This years Bond themed Leeds Pride event launches with the Pride 2 007 parade from Millennium Square on Sunday August 5th at 12 noon, with an opening and welcome to the day’s festivities from the Leeds Pride organisers, representatives of Leeds City Council, trade unions officials and local celebrities. The opening ceremony will have simultaneous British Sign Language interpretation.

Revellers will be serenaded by Gay Abandon as they rev themselves up for the central event of Leeds Pride 2 007, the massive city centre parade. In true Bond style there will quite literally be a cast of thousands and some spectacular vehicles taking part. Amongst the masses of individual participants and organisations joining in the fun will be West Yorkshire Police and Fire Services, The Queer Youth Network, Yorkshire and the Humber TUC as well as all of the local gay-owned and operated businesses, and of course your Yorkshire charity - Yorkshire MESMAC.

Of course you don’t have to be part of a group to take part, come along with your mates and or family or come alone and make new friends!

The route will take the parade from Millennium Square, along the Headrow and into Vicar Lane, into Call Lane, onto The Calls and up into Lower Briggate in time for the entertainment to start in the venues.

There will be an accessible minibus for those people who need assistance over part or the whole of the parade route and personal assistants will be available from 12 noon until 3pm. Please let the organisers know if you require a PA by July 20th.

There’s also an all-weather market and community space, with crèche facilities. There are limited places available in the crèche which can be pre-booked and a place cannot be guaranteed on the day unless you have booked in advance. Access details to the local gay venues can be found on the Leeds Pride web site where you will also find the latest list of acts and events happening on the day.
Phone: They are also looking for people to assist in stewarding the parade - for further information contact Mark on 0113 2444209
