On Saturday 5th January, Xibit in Leeds closed its doors for the last time. Following the purchase of the building by a new landlord, the increase in rent unfortunately made it impossible to remain trading, manager David Dabell tells Shout!
The last night saw a fantastic turnout to say farewell, with Leeds’ top drag DJ Daisy DuPont keeping an eye on the proceedings and top entertainment courtesy of Jesus and the Felch Monkeys.
Dabell said: ‘It is so unfortunate that Leeds is losing a gay venue, not just from the fact that the fantastic staff that have worked here are going, but more from the fact that as a gay scene, we need to support our venues to make Leeds a place that people want to visit!’
Of course, resident DJ Daisy DuPont can still be seen at The Bridge every Monday and every other Sunday, and also at The Greyhound, Huddersfield on Friday 15th February for a one-night guest spot!
Owner of both venues, Lance Jessop, would like to thank all of Xibit’s customers for all their support over the last couple of years and would like to assure people that The Bridge will continue to support the gay community and offer lots more in 2008!
