Britain's gay and lesbian population much prefers to holiday abroad with more than 80 per cent, saying they would choose an overseas break over a holiday in the UK any day, according to a new survey from the leading social networking site gaydar.co.uk
More than 50 per cent of people questioned said the main reason for taking a break was to go in search of somewhere warm to rest and relax. The stress of everyday living and work pressures were the two main reasons for escaping from the UK today. Once away, most said they were prepared to blow anything up £1,000 to ensure they enjoyed their vacation to the full.
Asked what was the most unusual item they had brought back from a holiday, the most popular answers included a rock, some sand, a local wood carving, a new partner - and a sexually transmitted disease.
And the Spanish were voted the nationality most preferred for enjoying a holiday romance, followed by the Americans and the Italians. More than 9,000 gay and lesbian people were survey by gaydar.co.uk, part of the QSoft Consulting brand portfolio.
Commenting on the results, gaydar.co.uk Marketing Manager Paul Beardshaw said: ‘Overseas travel remains a huge growth market within the gay and lesbian community. The British travel market clearly has a lot of work to do if it is to attract a bigger slice of this lucrative marketplace.’
