Gay Art is an exhibition of paintings by gay artist Christopher Lucas Furminger at the Littleborough Gallery in Lancashire. This will be his first solo exhibition at the gallery featuring his homoerotic paintings and portraiture and will feature a collection of his new work.
His work has featured in group and solo exhibitions and in 2004 he won the Stonewall Society Gender Icon Award and his work is featured in the collections of a number of celebrities and a member of the House of Lords.
‘His preference for working in oils on canvas gives the paintings a vibrancy and integrity of surface,’ says a press release. ‘The subject matter is an uncompromising depiction of Christopher’s experiences and feelings as a gay man that is celebratory rather than defiant.’
Furminger says: ‘The paintings include ideals of masculinity, the debate of nature/nurture causes of homosexuality, coming out and gay iconography and are displayed honestly for the viewer to make up their mind.’ The gallery is open fromThursday to Saturday 10am-4pm and the exhibition will run until 28th February.
