York Pride wants you!

off the scene
from February 2007

Summer may feel a long way away at the moment but a gallant group are getting together to start the plans for this year's York LGBT Pride celebrations. Last year, in glorious sunshine, a picnic was held in Rowntree's park. The picnic was arranged by the newly-formed York and Districts LGBT Forum with help from Yorkshire MESMAC and the TUC. Various stalls were present including a book stall and a jewellery stall brought along by members of the lgbt communities; activities included a dog show and badminton matches. 'The day went really well,' says Ellen Hill from Yorkshire MESMAC, 'and brought a fantastic crowd out to join in the fun especially since the last Pride celebrations in York had been had nearly a decade before. Toffs even kindly allowed free entry to the Sunday gay night to those wh'd attended the picnic and wanted to celebrate on into the night.'

This year the steering group want to build on the success of last year. ‘We are coming to you to ask for help, support and ideas. Maybe you are a juggler, or you are good at fund raising, you are damn good at staffing stalls or you attended last year and have ideas about how we could make it bigger and better this year. Whatever your interest or skills we want to hear from you. We would love to get input from all sections of the lgbt communities of York and districts to create a Pride that appeals to all.’ If you can offer help with any of the above or if you just want to ask questions about the LGBT Forum please contact Ellen Hill (see below).
