MESVac launches

health news
from February 2006

MESVAC, the new, fast hepatitis B vaccination service for gay and bisexual men in the Leeds area, starts on Wednesday 1st February.

This free service takes place between 6pm and 7.15pm at Yorkshire MESMAC’s Leeds office and from 7.30pm-8.30pm in Queens Court. Hepatitis B is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. Using condoms correctly offers some degree of protection against it, but the most effective way of protecting yourself is by getting vaccinated. Hundreds of men catch hepatitis B every year through sex with other men. As few as one in 10 gay men have been vaccinated. Yorkshire MESMAC wants to change these statistics.

MESVac uses a ‘super-accelerated’ vaccine: three injections in total over a four-week period. Traditional vaccines are usually administered over a six-month period. It’s flexible and there is no need to make an appointment - just turn up and get yourself sorted.
