At the end of November last year, David Richardson-Whiteley received the prestigious runner-up award for ‘Carer of the Year’ at the London Metropole Hotel, in a glitzy ceremony hosted by, appropriately enough, dyke comedian Rhona Cameron, along with over 900 guests from all levels of the care sector.
Richardson-Whitely, who lives in Leeds with his partner Craig McDermott, also a carer, was nominated by the manager of Hopton Court, the care home where they both work. ‘I had support letters from relatives and I’ve been told I was nominated for the high level of care I give to all clients and relatives,’ he says proudly.
He’s worked at Hopton Court Care Centre since March 2000, and the award has given him a great boost. ‘It’s great to feel that my hard work has been recognised and now that most of head office now have an idea of who I am, I will be hopefully leading my career in the direction of training for the company.’
‘I would like to thank the following people for their continuing support,’ says Richardson-Whiteley. ‘Caroline Jones and Danielle Ducey, Elaine Parker and Jaquie Hopper who nominated me for the award.
‘I feel the care awards are a brilliant way of showing all the good in the care sector, and the people who provide day-to-day service to the highest standards within the care sector, and they help to change the negative view which can surround the care industry from time to time.’
