After their celebration of the seven deadly sins, Religion, Leeds’ newest gay club, is not taking things lying down... or are they? Why not join them at their Pyjama Party on Saturday September 1st, until 5am, and see. Advance tickets are £5 or £10 on the door, and if you turn up in your jim-jams, entry is free!
And on Mondays, go down to Religion and receive a hard caning (or get a free drink for your colouring-in) at their School Disco - with drinks only £1.50. Will your picture be good enough to go on the headmaster’s wall? See the ad in this issue for more details.
The New Penny is having its annual Christmas Party on August Bank Holiday! DJs Glossy, Jeff and LeeLee will be taking the party on into the wee hours! And on the Friday before Leeds Pride, August 3rd, it’s your chance to ‘Shave a Diva’. Anna Glypta has been roped into having her head shaved for Pride. This will take place live on the stage at The Viaduct and whoever donates the most money will get to do the honours with the clippers! What’s more she’ll work the rest of the night bald!
In time for Pride, The Viaduct has had a mini-makeover. The new stage area, lights and sound system are all an indication that after a hugely successful first gay year, The Viaduct is definitely out and proud!
As well as the Pride celebrations, on August the 18th they start a post-Mission, Saturday night/Sun morning session called ‘Morning Glory’. Expect electro, house and chillout sounds till midday! And on August the 24th, The Viaduct is hosting the Leeds heat of the Drag 4 U competition. This is the largest multi region drag contest in the UK and the winner will become part of a cabaret tour with a value of £1,200. The contest is raising money towards HIV/AIDS research. Anna Glypta will be on hand as hostess and one of the judges. As if Hed Kandi and Federation aren’t big enough in their own right, they’re teaming up to completely blow the socks off Mission in Leeds, on Sunday August 5th – the date of Leeds Pride: Queer Kandi will feature DJs from both Federation (Gary Holden and Stuart Robinson) and from Hed Kandi (Phil Faversham and Andy Daniels) and the whole shebang runs from 10pm-5am (so it’s straight after the Fibre, Homo and Queens Court ‘Garden Party’ that everyone will be piling into after the main parade). Expect fabulously stylish house in several queer flavours - this is going to be first date in what promises to be a substantial tour which also hits Blackpool and Manchester.
