Just when you thought every item this month was about some gay pride or another, here's an odd item for this paper: a gay couple who’ve set up a swan and wildlife rescue hospital near York want to raise awareness of their work. So far, they’ve cared for over a thousand swans!
‘We act as full time unpaid volunteers,’ say Dan and Joe, ‘operating a rescue service throughout Yorkshire and the surrounding counties and have become the largest hospital unit for swans and wildlife in Northen England. Our services are relied upon heavily by many organisations, including the RSPCA, RSPB, Police Forces, Highways Agencies, park rangers and British Waterways to name but a few. We receive no funding from these organisations towards the costs of running our charity.’
It costs over £3,000 per month to run the charity - more details on their website
