The sun never seems to set on Bradford’s gay scene, writes Paul Hunt, with yet more changes at The Sun pub on Sunbridge Road.
Earlier this year Caz Clarke and Michaela Mitchell became the new resident managers and told Shout! of some big changes in 2008. With several new ‘happy hours’, the famous quiz and a whole host of cabaret lined up, the new team will be pretty busy.
Clarke said:‘We are both dedicated to serving the lgbt community here in Bradford and want to make sure that The Sun remains a safe, entertaining and great night out’
As well as retaining some of the tried-and-tested events - such as the quiz night with Craig - they’ve introduced several new elements to the weekly line up. Wednesdays will be singles night, so if you are looking for ‘lurv’ this is for you. On Friday the new resident drag artiste, Miss Missy Mincin, will entertain with her full caberet, whilst DJ Mark presents the cheesiest pop and dance every Saturday.
‘Planning for 2008 has proved really fun,’ says Clarke, ‘we want to be heavly involved with Bradford Pride and World Aids Day as well as several charity events for the summer. We also are planning a refurbishment, so things have been rather hectic to say the least. We have loads of established regulars who we really love to see but would also like to meet some of the new crowd or those who have not dropped in for a while’
Two planned nights at The Sun are the return of legendary drag cabaret Bobby Mandrel (pictured with Clarke and Mitchell) on April 11th and on April 26th an ‘Old Skool’ after-party from 3am till 6am.
They’ve certainly got a busy year ahead!
