Scene Briefs

on the scene
from April 2006

Huddersfield

Good news from Huddersfield’s latest gay pub, The New Union: ‘The opening night was very successful,’ they tell us, ‘and since then has gone from strength to strength averaging around three hundred people per night. The new DJ was fabulous playing a mixture of chart, house and dance. There’s no doorcharge every night of the week and drinks are reasonably priced: £2.50 on selected branded doubles and pints at £2.30. We are staying open every Friday till 3am and Saturday till 5am.’ Check out their advert for info.

And as if that wasn’t enough.... After the opening of the New Union, and the continuing success of The Greyhound, Huddersfield’s scene takes another leap forward with Camel Club’s brand new Come Out at Camel night on a Tuesday. ‘This night is working to rejuvenate Huddersfield’s gay scene,’ they tell us, ‘offering discount drinks and top dance music DJs, whilst also staying open until 3am so your night no longer has to finish early. Situated just off John William Street, Camel Club’s unique underground location provides a safe, hassle-free environment guaranteeing it will become one of your favourite nights out. Doors open at 10pm. Entry is £3.’ See the ad in this issue!

And The Greyhound’s holding a Mr Gay Hunk 2006 competition, starting in May, to find some sexy faces and bods to go into a 2007 calendar.

Bradford

‘Having had a hectic few months since our last mention in Shout!’ the chaps at The Sun Hotel and Club Life in Bradford tell us, ‘many wonderful things have been happening: The Sun now has rooms available and special discounted prices for weekend stays can be arranged which include a free pass into Club Life! To top it all off there has been a very successful 70s and 80s night with decorations beyond belief to make that night all the more special, Mark and Nick really pull out all the stops to make you feel part of the night and even go to the lengths of dressing up to match the theme!’

Many more theme nights are in the process of being arranged so check out www.clublifebradford.co.uk and click on the Sun Hotel to check out the forthcoming events. And literally around the corner is Club Life, with special drink offers and promotional events every week and everything from pop and funky house to dance music, what more could you ask for And the club is hosting its very own DJ competition: apply either on line at www.clublifebradford.co.uk or in person at the club itself: all that is required are a few details and a demo CD to enable you to be in a play-off against some of the hottest DJs around and a cash prize with a regular slot (to be arranged) at Bradford’s premier night club.’

York

Following the success of the new York gay night we told you about last month, the night has now gone weekly! ‘Every Monday night Williams Bar on Goodramgate is now a friendly and chilled out gay night in a stylish and welcoming bar that offers non-smoking areas and hot drinks as well as the usual bar fair. The bar has also been looking at other ways to invite the lgbt communities in and on 23rd March they held their first lgb speed dating night. Stay tuned for more events and developments. Leeds
