Sheffield Pride
in the news
from April 2006

Want to get involved with South Yorkshire's 1st Pride event?

‘We are looking for motivated people to help organise and support the region’s first ever Pride event,’ says Rennie Brown from South Yorkshire Police. ‘Could you help organise a parade through Sheffield city centre to rival London? Would you like to be involved in the biggest pink party run by the lgbt community South Yorkshire's ever seen?’

Brown continues: ‘Please get involved and put South Yorkshire on the Pride map, hosting a parade through Sheffield, a party in the park, stage, music, entertainment for all ages, fun fair, stalls, and much, much more.

‘We have already set up a few groups, so you could either feed into these by attending the next meeting or send your comments, ideas, suggestions, views, support or concerns via www.safeinsouthyorks.co.uk website - anonymously if you wish.’

The groups set up for the event so far include: a venue/route group for exploring suggested venues and routes for the parade; an entertainment group, looking at all entertainment, music, stage, including kids’ entertainment; a parade group, looking at the safety of the parade, floats organisation, links with the police and other groups/agencies; a youth group, ensuring young people are involved; and a volunteers group, coordinating stewards for the day or setting up the displays.

‘If you’d like to find out how you can help,’ says Brown, ‘come along to The NSPCC young people’s centre, George Street, Sheffield on Tuesday 18th April from 6.30pm - 8pm.’
